Small Thomson Red Cashmere Scarf

Thomson is the anglicised form of the Highland name MacTavish, and the red tartan here belongs to both. It is a young tartan with an old name: it appears in none of the early illustrated tartan books, and it was taken up as the Thomsons' own in the twentieth century. The pattern sets a broad band of red framed by lines of blue and black. It is Scottish heritage in its most vivid form.

Handcrafted from 100% pure cashmere at a 250 year old heritage mill, this scarf is made in a smaller size. The red is full and warm, held steady by fine lines of blue and black, and the scale keeps the check neat.

Thirty-five steps go into every scarf, and the last is a hand-finish. Teasels are stroked across the cashmere to raise the fibres to an extra soft finish. It is a scarf of rich colour and a gentle hand, small enough to go wherever you do.
