Description
Stewart is a name born of high office. It comes from the post of High Steward of Scotland, granted to Walter fitz Alan after he came to Scotland during the reign of David I and received estates in Renfrewshire and East Lothian. The family joined the royal line when Walter Stewart, 6th High Steward, married Marjory, daughter of Robert the Bruce, and their son became Robert II. The Stewarts held the Scottish throne, and later the English one, until 1714, and the clan’s motto, “Virescit vulnere virtus”, means “Courage grows strong at a wound”. Stewart Muted Blue is a gentler reading of the Royal Stewart tartan, with its bold palette softened into calm blues and greys.
This scarf is crafted from 100% pure extra fine lambswool in a Scottish mill with 250 years of heritage. Muted blue and grey settle across the cloth in a refined check, with the finer lines of the tartan adding a subtle sense of depth. It brings a cool, composed note to a cream knit, an olive jacket or tan trousers.
Each scarf is brought to completion in twenty-nine stages, the last of them the most traditional of all: the lambswool is brushed by hand with teasels, which lift the fibres into a delicate, cloud-like softness. The result is a scarf of understated luxury, light in the hand and gentle in warmth, its fringed ends adding a graceful finish, made to be worn on any occasion and treasured for years to come.
