Description

Stewart began as a title of trust. Its roots lie in the Old English word for a household steward, and in Scotland the post grew into the hereditary office of High Steward, first held around 1150 by Walter fitz Alan. From that office came a royal house, and the Stewarts held the Scottish throne from 1371, the year Robert II became king. The Stewart tartan has been woven in many colourways over the years, and the Stewart Camel, recorded in the Scottish Register of Tartans, reads the clan’s pattern in warm and sandy neutrals.

This scarf is crafted from 100% pure extra fine lambswool in a Scottish mill with 250 years of heritage. Camel and tan lead the check, shaded by deep green and lit by fine threads of blue and gold, and the cloth has the soft glow of dry grass in a low sun. It brings an easy warmth to a navy jumper, a white shirt or dark trousers.

Twenty-nine measured stages bring each scarf to completion, and the last is the most traditional: the lambswool is brushed by hand with teasels, which lift the fibres into a downy, cloud-like softness. The result is a scarf of understated luxury, light in the hand and gentle in warmth, its fringed ends adding a graceful finish, made to be worn on any occasion and treasured for years to come.
