Description

Ramsay is a name of Anglo-Norman origin that became deeply rooted in Lothian. Simon de Ramsay is said to have travelled north with David, Earl of Huntingdon, and received lands in Lothian, and a Ramsay witnessed a charter to the monks of Holyrood in 1140. The family acquired Dalhousie in the twelfth century and owned Dalhousie Castle until 1977, more than 800 years, said to be the longest any family has held a castle in Scotland. The chief became Earl of Dalhousie in 1633, and the clan’s motto, “Ora et Labora”, means “pray and work”. The Ramsay Blue Ancient tartan presents the family’s pattern in a soft, weathered palette.

This scarf is crafted from 100% pure extra fine lambswool in a Scottish mill with 250 years of heritage. Soft sky blues and gentle mossy greens settle across the cloth in a calm, balanced check, the kind of faded, natural shades that recall the dyes of earlier centuries. It pairs easily with cream chinos, a chambray shirt or a grey knit.

Twenty-nine careful stages bring each scarf to its final form, and the last is the most traditional: the lambswool is brushed by hand with teasels, which lift the fibres into a delicate, cloud-soft finish. The result is a scarf of understated luxury, light in the hand and gentle in warmth, its fringed ends adding a graceful finish, made to be worn on any occasion and treasured for years to come.
