Small Menzies Wool Scarf

Menzies, pronounced “Ming-iss”, is a name rooted in the hills and glens of Perthshire. The clan held lands in Glen Lyon and Atholl, and its historic seat, Castle Menzies, also called the Palace of Weem, was built in the sixteenth century and held by the family for over 500 years before being restored twice. The Menzies sett is woven in many colours to a single design, among them green, black, red and white, and a Menzies pattern was certified by the chief in around 1816 for the Highland Society of London. The black and white version strips the design to its essentials, a crisp reading of a very old Highland pattern.

This scarf is crafted from 100% pure extra fine lambswool in a Scottish mill with 250 years of heritage. Black and white meet in a sharp, balanced check, graphic and timeless, with a clarity that feels both classic and modern. It lifts a red jumper, grey denim or a charcoal coat with ease.

Twenty-nine measured stages bring each scarf to completion, and the last is the most traditional: the lambswool is brushed by hand with teasels, which lift the fibres into a soft, cloud-light finish. The result is a scarf of understated luxury, light in the hand and gentle in warmth, its fringed ends adding a graceful finish, made to be worn on any occasion and treasured for years to come.
