Description

MacLeod is a name that carries the sea and the islands in its story. It means “son of Leòid”, the Norse-Gael of the 13th century from whom both great branches of the clan trace their descent. The MacLeods of Harris and Dunvegan, descended through Tormod, held Harris, Glenelg and the Dunvegan lands on Skye, and Dunvegan Castle, dating from the 14th century, remains the seat of the chief. Among its treasures is the Fairy Flag, a cherished heirloom surrounded by legend, and the chief’s motto is “Hold fast”. The MacLeod of Harris tartan was published in early tartan collections in 1831 and 1851 and adopted by the clan society in 1910.

This scarf is crafted from 100% pure extra fine lambswool in a Scottish mill with 250 years of heritage. In the ancient colourway, mossy greens and sky blues are lit by touches of warm red and yellow, and the check has a soft, weathered grace. It pairs easily with a sand-coloured jacket, a white tee or a slate-grey knit.

Twenty-nine considered stages bring each scarf to its final form, and the last is the most traditional: the lambswool is brushed by hand with teasels, which lift the fibres into a delicate, cloud-soft finish. The result is a scarf of understated luxury, light in the hand and gentle in warmth, its fringed ends adding a graceful finish, made to be worn on any occasion and treasured for years to come.
