Small Holyrood Wool Scarf

Holyrood is a name steeped in royal Scottish history. King David I founded Holyrood Abbey in 1128, and its name is linked to the Holy Rood, a relic of the True Cross that had belonged to his mother, Saint Margaret. Beside the abbey grew the Palace of Holyroodhouse, which stands at the foot of Edinburgh’s Royal Mile and remains the monarch’s official residence in Scotland. The Holyrood tartan is a district tartan rather than a family one, created in 1977 as an adaptation of the Royal Stewart to mark the Silver Jubilee, and it speaks to a place that belongs to all of Scotland.

This scarf is crafted from 100% pure extra fine lambswool in a Scottish mill with 250 years of heritage. Cool blue and soft sage green are lightened by threads of silver and white, giving the check a calm, luminous quality. It adds quiet polish to crisp white shirts, navy tailoring and pale denim.

Twenty-nine patient steps lead to the finished scarf, and the last is the most traditional: the lambswool is brushed by hand with teasels, which raise the fibres into a delicate, cloud-soft surface.
