Small Bruce of Kinnaird Wool Scarf

Bruce is a name woven deeply into the story of Scotland. It comes from the French de Brus, and the family became a royal house, giving the country Robert the Bruce, crowned at Scone in 1306, and his son David II, with the Bruces ruling until 1371. The clan’s motto, “Fuimus”, means “We have been”. The Kinnaird branch took its name after the Bruces of Clackmannan acquired land at Kinnaird in Stirlingshire, and its tartan was copied from a coat said to date from the mid-eighteenth century and kept by the family. Woven anew from that old pattern, it was adopted as the family’s own, and it is still worn by the Elgin family today.

This scarf is crafted from 100% pure extra fine lambswool in a Scottish mill with 250 years of heritage. Soft green meets delicate notes of pink in an ancient colourway that feels gentle and quietly distinctive, and the check unfolds across the cloth with a calm, balanced rhythm. It pairs easily with ivory knitwear, stone-coloured trousers and denim.

Twenty-nine careful stages of finishing complete each piece, and the last is the most traditional: the lambswool is brushed by hand with teasels, which lift the fibres into a velvety, airy finish.
