Small Reversible Royal Stewart Wool Scarf

Royal Stewart is a tartan that has travelled from palace to pop culture. It is the personal tartan of the British monarch and the best known of all the patterns linked to the royal House of Stewart, and it was first published in 1831. In the 1960s the racing driver Jackie Stewart wore a band of it around his helmet, it has long dressed shortbread tins, and in the late 1970s it became a symbol of punk fashion. It has become a universal tartan, worn by anyone who loves its bold, unmistakable colour.

This scarf is crafted from 100% pure extra fine lambswool in a Scottish mill with 250 years of heritage. It is reversible, so it can be worn with either face showing, and a vivid red ground is crossed by bands of blue, green, yellow, black and white, with the check holding its bright colours in a lively, well-ordered balance. It gives a charcoal jumper, a white tee or a black coat an instant lift.

Twenty-nine considered stages bring each scarf to completion, and the last is the most traditional: the lambswool is brushed by hand with teasels, which lift the fibres into a downy, cloud-soft finish. The result is a scarf of understated luxury, light in the hand and gentle in warmth, its fringed ends adding a graceful finish, made to be worn on any occasion and treasured for years to come.
