Small Reversible Bannockbane Wool Scarf

Tartan found a new kind of fame in the nineteenth century. After Queen Victoria and Prince Albert bought the Balmoral estate in 1847, royal fashion took tartan far beyond its traditional uses, and in the second half of the century royal taste strongly shaped the civilian and fashion markets. Bannockbane belongs to the fashion strand of that story. Created as a trade pattern in the early 1970s, it takes an invented name rather than a family one, so it is open to anyone who loves it. The Silver colourway sets the pattern in cool, smoky greys.

This scarf is crafted from 100% pure extra fine lambswool in a Scottish mill with 250 years of heritage. It is reversible, so it can be worn with either face showing, and dark grey and soft silver tones share the cloth, with fine lines of white and warm camel adding a gentle lift. It pairs easily with a burgundy jumper, a white shirt or dark denim.

Twenty-nine measured stages bring each scarf to its final form, and the last is the most traditional: the lambswool is brushed by hand with teasels, which lift the fibres into a downy, cloud-like finish.
