Description

Mackenzie is a name woven into the story of the western Highlands. The clan is rooted in Kintail and Ross-shire, with the island fortress of Eilean Donan as its stronghold, and by the early seventeenth century its lands reached from the Black Isle to the Outer Hebrides. The chief’s Gaelic title, Caberféidh, recalls the stag’s head on the arms of the Earls of Seaforth, and today the chief’s seat is Castle Leod. The Mackenzie tartan became the regimental tartan of the Seaforth Highlanders, raised in 1778, and a certified sample signed by Mrs Mackenzie of Seaforth in 1816 is held by the Highland Society of London.

This scarf is crafted from 100% pure extra fine lambswool in a Scottish mill with 250 years of heritage. Deep green and rich blue sit against a dark ground, lit by crisp lines of red and white, and the check unfolds with a steady, balanced rhythm. It lends a touch of heritage to heather knitwear, a waxed jacket or crisp white cotton.

Twenty-nine considered steps bring each scarf to its final form, and the last is the most traditional: the lambswool is brushed by hand with teasels, which lift the fibres into a feather-soft finish. The result is a scarf of understated luxury, light in the hand and gentle in warmth, its fringed ends adding a graceful finish, made to be worn on any occasion and treasured for years to come.
