Description

The name MacKellar comes from the Gaelic for "son of Ealair", a name linked to Hilarius, Bishop of Poitiers, around 1230. The family was established in Argyll from the thirteenth century, and in 1476 James III granted the lands of Ardare and Craigmingle to Gilchrist MacAlere. Long associated with Clan Campbell, the MacKellars took as their motto "Perseverando", meaning "by persevering". Their tartan is a later design, dating from around 1930, and is shown here in natural tones of grey and beige. It is Scottish heritage in its most quietly resilient form.

A 250 year old heritage mill handcrafts this scarf from 100% pure cashmere. The greys and beiges sit calmly together, giving the tartan an understated elegance.

Every scarf takes 35 steps to complete, and the last is done entirely by hand. Teasels are brushed across the cashmere to coax up the fibres, leaving an extra soft finish that feels as good as it looks. It is a scarf for cold mornings and long winters, soft, warm and made to last.
