Description
The Buchanan tartan was a weaver's pattern before it was a clan's. Around 1800, Wilsons of Bannockburn wove it as one of their fancy patterns, a small check whose stripes do not mirror one another. It was later taken up as the Buchanan clan tartan and recorded in 1843. Asymmetry is unusual in a clan tartan, and the Buchanan is among the best known examples. It is Scottish heritage in its most individual form.
Handcrafted from 100% pure cashmere at a 250 year old heritage mill, this scarf is made in a smaller size. The yellow, red, blue and green fall unevenly, as the pattern intends, and the smaller scale keeps the check close and bright.
Every scarf is made over 35 steps, and the last is done by hand. Teasels are drawn across the cashmere to raise the fibres to an extra soft finish. It is a scarf of bright colour and easy comfort, made to bring cheer to the coldest days.
