Black Watch Extra Fine Wool Scarf

The Black Watch is a tartan that grew from a regiment’s story. The watch companies raised in 1725 became the 42nd (Royal Highland) Regiment of Foot in 1739, and in 1881 the regiment was joined with the 73rd to form the Black Watch (Royal Highlanders). Today it is the 3rd Battalion of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, based at Fort George near Inverness, and its drummers still wear the tartan. The Campbell clan shares the same sett, and the clan may have adopted it because so many Campbells already wore it in regimental service. It remains one of the most dignified and widely loved patterns in Scottish dress.

This scarf is made in Scotland from 100% pure extra fine lambswool in a mill with 250 years of heritage. Forest green leads the check, deepened by navy and black, and the pattern settles across the cloth in a steady, quiet rhythm. It pairs easily with a mushroom-coloured knit, white jeans or a denim jacket.

Twenty-nine careful stages bring each scarf to its final form, and the last is the most traditional: the lambswool is brushed by hand with teasels, which lift the fibres into a plush, weightless softness.
