Description

Thomson is a name that Scotland holds close. Meaning “son of Thom”, it gave the country one of its most affectionate sayings, “Jock Tamson’s bairns”, a phrase for shared humanity that the Dictionary of the Scots Language first records in 1847 and that is often linked to the Reverend John Thomson, minister of Duddingston Kirk in Edinburgh from 1805 to 1840. The name has roots in both the Highlands, where it is an anglicised form of the clan names MacTavish and MacThomas, and the Lowlands and Borders. Its tartan is woven in several colourways, and Thomson Light brings the pattern into a pale, gentle register.

This scarf is crafted from 100% pure extra fine lambswool in a Scottish mill with 250 years of heritage. A soft, light beige ground is crossed by fine lines of black, white and red, and the check settles across the cloth with a calm, even rhythm. It suits slate overcoats, dark knits and washed-denim shirts, adding a light and polished neutral.

Twenty-nine deliberate stages bring each scarf to its final form, and the last is the most traditional: the lambswool is brushed by hand with teasels, which lift the fibres into a plush, airy softness. The result is a scarf of understated luxury, light in the hand and gentle in warmth, its fringed ends adding a graceful finish, made to be worn on any occasion and treasured for years to come.
