Red and Black Check Wool Scarf

Red takes the lead in this colourway of the iconic check, the pattern we are best known for at Edinburgh Cashmere, a Scottish heritage brand, with black anchoring the design. It is a lively, self-assured combination that stays comfortably classic.

We craft this scarf by hand in extra fine pure lambswool, at one of Scotland’s oldest working mills, where cloth has been woven for over 250 years. The iconic check keeps its edges clean and its tones rich and even, so the finished piece looks polished at any distance. Throw it over a grey knit for a weekend market run, fold it flat into the collar of a bomber, or loop it once with a black dress for drinks after work. The fringe at each end adds a little movement.

The journey from dye house to finished scarf takes 29 steps, passing through the loom, the wash and the final finishing. Teasels, the traditional tool of Scottish finishers, have the last word: a hand-brushing that lifts the fibres into a cushioned, extra-soft surface. Delicate against the skin and sturdy in spirit, it is made to outlast trends and stay with you for life.
