Macleod of Harris Ancient Cashmere Scarf

The MacLeods of Harris and Dunvegan descend from Tormod, son of Leod, and have held Dunvegan Castle on the Isle of Skye since the thirteenth century. Their motto is "Hold Fast". The clan's tartan appears in early Scottish collections from 1831 and was approved by the chief in 1910 as the modern sett, with greens and blues lit by fine lines of red and yellow. Here it is rendered in the softer, lighter tones of the Ancient colourway. It is Scottish heritage in its most steadfast form.

Handcrafted from 100% pure cashmere, this scarf is made in a 250 year old heritage mill. The Ancient palette is soft and gentle, its greens and blues faded to a lovely, lived-in warmth.

Its making is a patient process of 35 steps, closed by an old technique: a final brushing by hand with teasels, which coaxes the cashmere into a finish of extra softness. What remains is a scarf with a gentle drape and lasting warmth, made to be treasured for years.
